The Broadway production of Burn the Floor has returned to a previously set closing date of January 10, 2010, at the Longacre Theatre. Mary Murphy of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance will now perform from December 22 to closing, joining Dancing with the Stars headliners Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson on stage for the holidays. The ballroom and Latin dance spectacular is directed and choreographed by Jason Gilkison.
On November 23, the producers had announced that Burn the Floor would continue its run through February 14 with real-life DWTS couple Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo arriving in January. Presumably, advance sales did not justify the second extension. A world tour of the show will begin in late February 2010, including 30 U.S. cities.
Best known for her enthusiastic and emotional judging style on So You Think You Can Dance, Murphy is a U.S. Ballroom Dance Champion and an Austrian National 10-dance and Ballroom Champion. She will be partnered with Vaidas Skimelis.
In addition to Maks and Kym, the cast of Burn the Floor includes Henry Byalikov, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Kevin Clifton, Sasha Farber, Jeremy Garner, Karen Hauer, Patrick Helm, Sarah Hives, Melanie Hooper, Peta Murgatroyd, Giselle Peacock, Nuria Santalucia, Mirko Sciolan, Emma Slater, Sarah Soriano, Katarina Stumpfova, Damon & Rebecca Sugden, Damian Whitewood, Robin Windsor, Gary Wright and vocalists Ricky Rojas and Rebecca Tapia.
